NZ Ecochick showed us the coolest Glass Soap Dispensers that she made for her kitchen and bathroom. I think they are so cool. I have been seeing so many new ways to use glass containers and I just love it. Her blog is awesome. If you are interested in living frugally, growing your own food, crafting, organizing, OR NEW ZEALAND... you should go check her out. She offers awesome ideas from these dispensers to recipes like curried eggs or banana jam, or simply organizing.. she has such a wide variety of things to offer you as a reader- I would definitely check her out. Thanks for sharing this awesome creation, NZ Ecochick

Pamela at Inspired by Felicity shared with us her Date With Herself that she has every morning. How could I NOT love this one? She sounds like a woman after my own heart... just in different order. She talks about how she enjoys her fruit tea (which I would love to know where to get that) and kettle corn each morning while checking in online before she hears the creak of the door and her daughter Felicity comes out. She tells us how her first reaction at hearing the door is "Darn, my time is up" but as soon as she sees Felicity's smiling face she doesn't mind the interruption. THIS IS ME every morning. I quietly try and get ready to get downstairs to have 10 minutes to just ME before hearing my boy open the door and the pitter patter of his feet. Some mornings I feel the SAME way... but as soon as I see his sweet face and messed up hair I am wanting my good morning hugs! As far as the popcorn... I have a secret indulgence with air popped popcorn during nap time. You, my friend, are not alone! THANK YOU for sharing!

Our sweet friend at Romance on a Dime shared with us a great recipe for HOMEMADE Yogurt. I am so excited to see her recipe. My best friend has started making her own, but hearing her talk about it has really intimidated me from making it. The recipe shared at Romance on a Dime seems so easy... so cheap... and so yummy. Who wouldn't want to do this? I am going to make it a priority to try this awesome recipe this week! Thank you so much for sharing and helping make me a little less intimidated by yogurt making.

Liz over at Imagine Remix is a new friend as of last week, and I just love her stuff! This amazing side table redo really caught my eye.  For one I just LOVE maps! I don't really know why, but maybe because they remind me of all the people in the world and how God has a plan for each one of us and loves each one of us.  I think inside I feel something like that when I see maps, it is kind of unexplainable.  But when I saw this table I fell in love! Like seriously if I saw this at a store I would HAVE TO HAVE IT! It looks so professional and I can't believe she made it with a laminated map that she had! Anyways, stop by and give our new friend some blog love, and enjoy this side table as much as I do!

When this fun project from Lisa at Condo Blues was linked up I was very surprised and excited.  The night before I had just bought a wine crate similar to this from Sam's.  I was so excited, but.....I had NO idea what I would do with it! I loved her ideas.  First she made it into a dog toy box.  (Which right now my dogs toys sit under the shelf of our entertainment center, so this would be a great idea for me!), and then she showed how to make a cute dog bed out of it! It was a great post, and very helpful for me since I was trying to find ideas for my own wine crate.  I haven't made up my mind of how I am going to use it yet, but Lisa gave me some great inspiration to start with!

One of my wonderful blog friends Kari from Newlyweds on a Budget has a monthly craft night with another great blogger, and this month they decided to make something Pinterest inspired.  And if you have been on Pinterest you have probably seen some pretty cute wreaths that are similar to this...either with yarn, or fabric balls.  Either way, they are too cute! I just love this summer wreath, such a fun idea and such easy supplies to use! If you know anything about me, you know that I love wreaths! I wish I could make tons of wreaths year round, but instead I just have to find fun wreaths from great blogs like Kari's, and share them with my readers.  Stop by to learn about all of Kari's fun DIY projects and crafts...she's great!

So now it's time for this week's party! Have fun and hang out with others ;-) Visit other blogs and make new bloggy friends! Then come back here and LIKE their posts!

Dream Sheet? What is a Dream Sheet?!

Today is Day 2 of a week of participation in the Military Spouse Blog Carnival at Wives of Faith in honor of Military Spouse Appreciation. I have never participated in anything like this before, but I think it is a great idea. It is a week of taking their daily topic and writing from my heart. I really like it because I will be able to look back into the last 8 years of our military lives and tell you some of the things that I love so much about being part of this world.... and reasons I am so very proud of the man the Lord brought into my life. I hope you will join us here daily to read about the life that I love so much- Being a Military Spouse!

Today's daily topic from Wives of Faith is We all know there’s a “dream sheet” for our service members to indicate where they’d choose to be sent if possible. But what about you? What duty stations or locations would be on YOUR dream sheet?"

How great to be asked this question. Well for those that do not know what a Dream Sheet is in the military... A list that you have and keep updated on your 'preference' of bases you would like to go to.. but that does not mean you will get any of those options. I remember when my husband joined the military and he was gone to Basic and Tech School. I was so excited to hear where we would be stationed... I just knew it was going to be somewhere cool like say, Maine? Germany? Italy? When I received word we were going to Mississippi I CRIED! Yes, I cried. We are from Texas, which I LOVE, and Mississippi was just so close to home. In the beginning, like many of you, we were only in the military for FOUR years, and then we would come home. Riiiight! I just couldn't believe all of the work he had put into getting into the military and then moving us just for our four years... was going to be to Mississippi--- a mere 8 hours from home. Now, don't get me wrong... I did not want to leave my family... we are super close. But if we were going to do this... we needed to do this the WHOLE WAY! I just couldn't believe it.

Fast forward four years, one deployment, a reenlistment, a bachelors degree on my part, and December of my first year teaching... (See, Mississippi WAS good to us)... It was early in the day in December when my husband texted me. My cell was in my podium at school and we were doing our morning work in the 5th grade class that I taught at in Northern Mississippi. I get a text from my husband that read "So, you like sushi, right?" I was thinking ?? 'well yes, he knows I like sushi.. hm.. maybe dinner tonight" So I just responded "uh.. yea?" When the text that sent me to tears was "We got orders, baby! We are moving to Japan!" WHAT IN THE WORLD! This is not happening. Japan?? There are bases in Japan?? Who knew that.. and WHO PUT THAT ON OUR DREAM SHEET!!!!! I was mortified. I was blessed to have a coworker in my room as I broke down... so I walked out of the room. I walked upstairs to call my husband for him to confirm that this was no joke. I actually said to him on the phone 'but, Japan isn't even on your dream sheet...' and in response he says, 'yea... it was.' It was then that I learned that he can change his dream sheet at any time... I remember calling my mom crying. After about 20 minutes I regained composure and returned to my class. I would be lying if I told you that we had a productive day that day. We didn't. During lunch my coworker and I googled Misawa, Japan to find out we were going to be buried in snow!!! Six more months and we would be in Japan! By the end of the day I was excited.....

Fast forward three years, another reenlistment, meeting friends that will be with me forever, climbing Mt. Fuji 5 weeks pregnant, teaching three years for the Department of Defense, getting my Masters degree, losing my brother in a car wreck, my baby sister getting married 16 days later, having a precious little boy, trip to Thailand, and a breaking heart because I was leaving Japan.... It was the February before we were due to leave Japan and we received word that our choices were out... we could choose from California, Florida, South Carolina, South Dakota. OF COURSE the one base the husband had wanted since he joined was on the list... the one base I never wanted.. California. I struggled with Florida because it was so close to home... again, not because I wanted to be far away, but if we were living this life, I wanted to live this life. South Carolina is not what we wanted... and strangely enough, I had decided on South Dakota- weird, I know. I was heartbroken that Abilene, Texas wasn't on there.. where my sister lives and 5 hours from home or Barksdale, Louisiana... two hours from home. We talked about it and in the end decided to put in California and oddly enough... two weeks later we had orders- to California (our now home). So we began looking at homes to buy as we started this next chapter where we made the decision that I would not teach but stay home with the precious boy the Lord had given us... California has been good so far.. :)

BUT, if it were MY DREAM SHEET!!! This is what I would put:

1. Dyess AFB in Abilene, Texas: I would love to live in Abilene. I would love to be in the same area with my sister and have my mom be able to visit regularly. I would love to be able to drive home in a moments notice or for holidays. I would love just to be there. I would love to be an everyday part of her life as we grow together and be amazing Aunts to each others' kids. I have to trust that the Lord has a plan and that we will end up there one day... and that is the reason He did not send us there this time. Oh, how I would love to live in Abilene.

2. Anderson AFB in Guam: I think Guam would be a lovely place to live. I have never been there but I have seen pictures and have friends that have been there. I think it would be an awesome place to have my kids grow up and enjoy the beach. I am not really a beach person, but I really do think we could love it there for a short while as we did Japan.

3. Elmendorf, Alaska: I think living in Alaska and having my family visit there would be nice. Alaska is a beautiful place and I think it would be fun to find all kinds of adventures to get into while we were there. I think my children would enjoy the snow and building snow men. All in all, I think it would be an adventure worth having and who wouldn't want to see the Northern Lights?

4. Aviano AB, Italy: I have ALWAYS wanted to go to Italy. You can travel to so many places from this base. Everyone I know that is there has gotten to go to so many different places... I think it would be fantastic. What a great learning experience for my future homeschooling excursions with my kids. Italy seems so dreamy and I would love to visit there once in my lifetime.

5. Langley or McGuire AFB: I would love to go to the East Coast. I have never been to the Northeast and would love to experience going over there. I have always wanted to go to Maine and I think living in one of those places would help me get there easier.. and maybe even NYC.. just to visit.

So there you have it.. my dream sheet. But in reality the only one that I really, really want is Dyess. Other than that I am not picky. I just want to be where my husband is happy... he is the one that has to work on the base, not me. If we were to return overseas it would be so tempting to get back into the DoDDs school systems there instead of homeschooling... so praying the Lord just can keep that temptation away by keeping us stateside. It is true:

My home is where the Air Force send US!

Dependent? Independent? What to do?

Today starts a week of participation in the Military Spouse Blog Carnival at Wives of Faith in honor of Military Spouse Appreciation.

Today's daily topic from Wives of Faith is ”You know you’re a military spouse when . . . ”

*I speak personally with the word husband, but let it be known that there are many men military spouses out there supporting their wives as they serve their country. I do not take that lightly when I refer to the Active Duty.*

I would like to start this blog out by saying that I NEVER thought I would be part of the Military world. The Military was not something that I was very familiar with as a child, until my brother joined the Marines when I was 14. He was only in the Marines for a few years and even during that time, I never really understood what it meant for him to be in the Military. I remember the day my husband came home and told me that he wanted to join the Army. I was beside myself. We had only been married for six months and I was only 20 years old. This was not how our lives were suppose to go. I had taken a semester (which turned into a year) off of college so he could pursue his career as a Fire Fighter. He went through Fire Academy and started his first civilian job as a Fire Fighter... and then brought me this news! I remember walking in a park, mortified, discussing this topic. I knew nothing of the military world... but I did know one thing... the Army scared me and moving from my family scared me too. In the end, I agreed and supported him to join the Air Force and I became the very proud wife that I am today. I am so thankful for our experiences together and growing together in the military. We have lived eight hours from home, across the world from home in another country, and now 30 hours across the U.S. from home. We have had to lay my brother to rest and brought our son into the world while living in another country. We have experienced so many adventures, so much happiness, and a lot of heartache. We have made life long friends and we have left those friends, knowing that we will be forever family. I am so very blessed with my amazing family and their support as we take this journey.

There are so many things that come to mind when I think about the topic "You know you're a military spouse when...." I know I am a military spouse when: you know all of the meanings of words letters such as, PCS, ETA, TDY, DEROS, FTAC, AB, AMN, SSGT, TSGT, MSGT, OPSEC  to name a few, and forget to bring it back to civilian non-military wording when you are around them (along with the many I do not know), you use a gerber for everything, friends can become closer to you than family, being a single mom is no big deal, moving is a normal thing in my life, use military gear for skiing, yourvflashlights are green L shaped, hearing the 'bomb' go off is a weekly heartache, you write in military time, hearing the National Anthem and stopping with your hand across your heart out of respect daily, you refer to the people your spouse works with by their last name and probably do not even know their first name, you spend holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries alone, you don't even notice the planes that fly early in the morning or late at night, Skype is your best friend, you think it is odd when movie theaters do not play the National Anthem before a movie, it costs $0 to have your babies, you can drop anything and everything you are doing to answer the phone, you have 'Skype dates'.... and the list could go on and on and on. These are just some that come to my mind.

As I have said, I LOVE being a Military Spouse. One of the ways "you know you are a military spouse when..." that really screams out to me and is so real in my life is when:

You can go from DEPENDENT to INDEPENDENT to DEPENDENT again like it is no big deal.
Shall I explain?

As woman, many times we are very dependent on our helpmates.... which is the way we should be. I would dare to say that among many of the women (non-military) my age and when I was a younger spouse, I always felt that I was more independent than they were or wanted to be. Not in a judgemental way at all... but because I could easily go from depending on my husband to him being gone in a matter of minutes. It is the life we chose to live and we really have no other choice. Once your spouse is gone on a TDY, Deployment, or even work (12 or 24 hours shifts anyone?) you have to learn to fend for yourself and your family. I am not the first nor will I be the last spouse to say that everything breaks when the husband leaves. The independence that I learned when my husband went to Basic Training and Tech School has only grown in me and helped me through numerous TDYs and three Deployments while miles and miles from family. I believe that most military spouses are some of the strongest people I know. We can do things that so many other spouses wouldn't dream of doing... or we do them because we have to. When our spouse has to leave us for months at a time, we have to learn to let go of depending on them so much, and learn to put our independence to work. Though spouses may let go of that independence once their man returns home, I believe that we always hold a sense of independence in us. When spouses return from deployment, which can always be such an adjustment, I think it takes time to learn to depend on your husband again. I would even dare to say it is more difficult for us, as spouses, to learn to depend on our husband again then it is to quickly be independent... at least that has been my experience. I have learned when the husband leaves that I CAN do the things I never had to do before... so when he returns, for me, it is difficult to give back those responsibilities. I got use to mowing the yard, shoveling the snow, changing the oil, taking care of car issues, all doctors appointments, work, dinner, lunches, bath time, bed time routines, sleeping alone, etc. I can still do all of that when he returns. Many times my thought process is telling me that I should just do it all... I have been for six months anyways. It can be such a challenge to start giving back some responsibilities to the spouse and allowing them to do for you when you have done everything on your own for so long. On the flip side of that... our spouses have to learn to do it all on their own too... They go from relying on us to have their clothes cleaned and ironed, their lunches packed, their dinner warm, their groceries bought, their sheets washed and beds made, etc. to having to do that all themselves too. I think it is amazing how military couples can both go from being so dependent on one another to being totally independent and then going back to being dependent on one another. It is something that brings us, as spouses, together as one. We UNDERSTAND each other. We GET it. We also all understand the difficulty of it all... of deployments, TDYs, exercises, schools... we get it. We know how hard it can be to play the role of mom and dad for months on end and then how hard it can be to watch and allow your spouse to take back some of that responsibility when they return home.

I think as spouses it is our duty to serve our husbands as they are serving their country. I think it is important when they leave on these long trips that we take the time and invest in them... to make them feel like we are dependent on them in some way. It is important for both parties. I also think how amazing it is to be a military spouse and to have the common bond that we all have.... we are all making memories that no one can take away.

As we struggle to learn how to live life without our spouses and be less dependent on them we find ourselves growing as an independent woman who can do more on her own. Yet how amazing it is to be that strong woman he returns from his deployments and be able to return some of the many hats we wear to him as we learn to depend on him again....

Being a military wife is a gift... and I am so grateful for it.

Remodeling a dining room

Last Saturday was so much fun for my husband and me! First, we got up that morning and drove out to a little town outside of Abilene called Buffalo Gap.  If you know anything about West Texas, you know it is flat...but in the small community of Buffalo Gap, it is a pretty countryside with several plateau's..aka hills.  So I had been running a lot in our neighborhood, but wanted to be challenged and run some hills, and every time I drive past a plateau I think about how fun it would be just to climb up/hike one.  So we made plans to do something a little different and went out there.
It was fun, although we weren't totally sure where to go.  We found what will one day be a nice neighborhood where they were clearing out lots, and we parked and ran through the roads, up the hills.  It was quite the challenge, but a lot of fun.
Then we ended up going up the side of the hill in the middle of our run and hiking some.  It was a lot of fun.  We had our dog with us, and it was fun to watch her too.  Although these were just plateau's in West Texas, there was still some climbing you have to do, not just walking up a hill :-)
Here's some of the pretty views we saw...pretty good for our part of the country.
That's me and my dog down there...but you can barely see us!

After spending the morning hiking, we went to our friend's house to help them remodel a room in their home.  They just got married in December, and he owned the house that they now live in.  They have done so much work to it already, it looks so great...I wish I could show you all they have done to their bedroom and bathroom.
Here though, is the room that is linked off from their kitchen.  Before they were married it was used for a guy roommates bedroom, now though they want to make it a formal dining room since they don't have that.
So that is what we worked on from 12pm to about 11pm on Saturday.  We had so much fun and we got so much accomplished! We didn't get the room completed, but they plan to have it all done this weekend, and I will definitely put up another post to show you the finished product.

So if you notice...the entire room, ALL FOUR WALLS were covered from ceiling to floor with wood paneling.  At first her husband really liked the wood lol but after seeing the transformation start to take place he really liked what it is going to turn out to be!

So first he cut off the bottom half of the wood paneling.  And if you know anything about houses...you can tell that there is a problem with this picture.  This room is an exterior room on the house and had NO INSULATION! That's a great problem to run into....so they had to run and buy insulation and the guys totally insulated the room.

While they were at the store, us girls began painting the top half of the wood.  This wood was going to stay on, and be painted a nice robin's egg/Tiffany's style blue.  It was a really pretty color. So really most of my day was spent painting primer, and then finally the fun color! Usually I really dread painting, but it was a lot of fun to paint and talk with friends!

Another big part of this project was expanding the doorway.  I loved this idea because I really feel like it is going to make the kitchen and dining room flow together nicely!

It was a lot of fun to watch the men use their power tools and knock out part of the door! I was very impressed by how talented they are and how much they know to do in remodeling a house.

Here's the happy couple in their newly expanded doorway :-)

I tried to capture the color on camera for yall, to show how pretty it was.
(Sorry for the bad quality of pictures, I was not prepared with my camera and just used my iphone)

You can see the paint color a little more in this picture.
There is my husband attaching the sheetrock to the bottom half of the wall.

So their plan is to cover the bottom of the wall with sheetrock, and add wainscoting to it.  Then paint it all with a semi glossy white paint.  They are also hoping to buy a fun chandelier to hang over the table. I think it is going to look amazing!

It was crazy how much work we got done in that one day.  You can already see such a transformation.

I will be posting sometime next week more, and better quality pictures of this project with it finally finished! I can't wait to see the final results!

This really made me want to own my own house so that we could have fun remodeling rooms and making them into what we want.  But at this time I am content with saving money, and enjoying my nice house that doesn't need remodeling lol And one day we will have fun fixing up our own house!

Weightloss Wednesday #7

Good Morning! Good Morning! Good Morning!

We hope this blog finds you all doing well. This blog has really been helping hold me accountable in reaching my goals. I never thought a blog would do such... but it does. As I write this I am finally able to sit down and watch the Biggest Loser Finale. I am excited to see who wins.. :) Yes, I love this show. I do not watch much TV... but this show is one I always found a way to watch while living in Japan too! It encourages me.... some do not like it- but I am a faithful watcher.

No one likes to be on this journey alone... right? I just have to tell you all how thankful that I am to have my long time best friend, from Jr. High/High School days doing this along side of me. For the first time ever we are ranging around the same weights, give or take five pounds here and there, and it is so helpful for the both of us. We use texting and Facebook to keep in touch since she is 30 hours away from me. All this to tell you that we are doing the May Fitness Picture Challenge.. It looks like fun and it will be interesting to see each others pictures. I saw it floating around Facebook last night and grabbed it.. Have you seen this?

It was interesting to take the before picture today! I have been finding pictures of myself 31 pounds ago... and adding them to slides on Powerpoint to help encourage me.. and encourage they have. I notice it most in my face... I am so thankful I have finally gotten back on track. How many of you have ever felt that way.. seeing old pictures and being so thankful you have managed to get over that hump and move forward. A friend and I took pictures a few months back, same weight, but I am wearing baggy clothes.. I wore them again today and took another picture. I was encouraged.

So who will join with us on this May Fitness Photo-A-Day Challenge? It looks fun. I am really interested for Day 3- Sweat.. Interested to see what kinds of pictures we will come up with. I will do it... leave you with my before picture... well for this challenge. I don't think I am ready to post what I have created in Powerpoint just yet... Other than this blog I am not really talking about my weight loss much... and I just don't think I am ready to be so raw and real just yet.. ya know?

So there you have it.. My May Day 1 pictures.. and I will post them on the last day of the month too... I know what we see there is still an overweight girl that has a ways to go... but you wanna know what is so awesome about these pictures to me? Wanna know what I see:
*Confidence
*Happiness
*Love
*Contentment
*Hardworking
*Determined
*Joy
*The ME I was before I moved to Japan!!

I am starting to love me again and that is a HUGE thing!!! Have a blessed day dear blogging friends!!!

Tutus and tea parties made the most adorable barefoot sandals for a little girl! OMG this makes me want a baby girl so bad! And these seemed so easy to make...she made them out of a yellow t-shirt! How crafty, I just love all the new t-shirt crafts happening these days! She also showed how it could double as a cute bracelet on an adult...but shoot I love these little sandals so much I may make some my size :-)

Make Me Pretty Again sure did make this 80 year old antique dresser VERY PRETTY again! I am always so scared to put color on antiqued stuff! But this gives me so much inspiration to GET BOLD! I love what she did here! I love it with the mirror attached even better....head over to her blog to see the full dresser redone.  What a fun addition to your home!

Revitalize Your Health shared 3 great body butter recipes! HOW GREAT IS THAT!?? You can make your own body butter and save money! and look how creamy the picture looks, that must be so great for your skin...I am def. going to try this, plus you will know exactly what you are using, because you put all of the ingredients in, and you can pick the scent!

Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers, Oh My! made some cute paper plate crafts with her kiddos in her at home day care! This is such a great idea when studying animals, or even letters! Using paper plates is a cheap and easy way to make crafts, and giving them paint and letting them go free is a great way to exercise creativity! I love it!

So now it's time for this week's party! Have fun and hang out with others ;-) Visit other blogs and make new bloggy friends! Then come back here and LIKE their posts!
